The tax office was active during the holidays
From 4 July to 28 August 2022 alone, officials of the National Tax Administration carried out 32,227 checks in the form of check acquisition. They issued 7666 fines amounting to nearly PLN 9 million, according to a press release from the Ministry of Finance.
This number of fines means that one in four sales checked showed irregularities, as the main purpose of the tax office’s checks was to verify the correctness of recording sales in fiscal cash registers.
– It should be recalled that inspections in the form of check purchases can be carried out by employees or officers of tax offices, customs and fiscal offices. They must present a valid official ID card and a permanent authorisation granted by the head of the tax office or customs and fiscal office. For the purposes of documentation at the inspection site, they may take photographs, films and record sound, explains Michał Nielepkowicz, tax adviser, partner at Thedy & Partners.
It is also worth knowing that KAS employees carry out year-round inspections of sales points. During holidays, there are more of them in tourist destinations.
