The new government’s promises will have to be funded. Where can the funds come from?
We still have to wait a while before the new government is sworn in. However, it can already be said today that the new Finance Minister will face a major challenge in finding the funds to implement the election promises.
Where might these funds come from?
– One can expect, in part, from taxpayers’ pockets and increased tax audits. For it is enough to look at the statistics. The number of audits tends to decrease from year to year, but the typing for audits is more precise and accurate and the amounts collected in this way are higher. Statistics from the Ministry of Finance show that 22,000 fiscal, customs and tax inspections were carried out in 2022 (compared to 151,000 in 2008). In 2022, 33 thousand fiscal-penalty proceedings were also initiated (compared to 107 thousand in 2008) and 11 thousand criminal fines were issued (compared to 302 thousand in 2008). Meanwhile, the collectability of tax debts has been at the level of slightly over PLN 3 billion for about two years (PLN 3.2 billion in 2022 and PLN 3.1 billion in 2021), comments Michał Wolański, an expert on tax audits.
