Bilateral Social Security Agreement Between Poland and India on the Horizon?
Last year, Poland signed a social security agreement with India, which is currently awaiting ratification. Once in force, it will significantly change the rules for both cross-border workers and companies employing Indian specialists.
What exactly will change once the agreement enters into force:
• The agreement provides for the totalization of insurance periods – individuals who have worked in both Poland and India will be able to combine their insurance periods from both countries to qualify for pension and disability benefits. This is not currently possible and is disadvantageous for insured individuals.
• The agreement introduces mechanisms to prevent legislative overlap – avoiding duplicate social security contributions in both countries.
• Living in the other country will not negatively affect entitlement to or the amount of benefits received.
